Hyper‑Hemispherical Industrial Vision System
A 360° Ingenious Multifocal
The PanVision industrial vision system offers a hyper‑hemispherical view, the evolution of panoramic vision.
This optical system is a true innovation: in addition to delivering a clear 360° horizontal view (panoramic vision), it also provides a 270° vertical field of view.
PanVision can be compared to the exceptional capability of the helmethead gecko’s eye: with extraordinary sensitivity surpassing that of the human eye by over 350 times, a gecko’s eye can recognise and distinguish colours even in low‑light conditions. This is made possible thanks to a multifocal optical system that uses a series of concentric zones, each with different refractive powers.
Moreover, in the PanVision bifocal version, this 3D vision and imaging system offers the ability to magnify a specific area using a single compact objective.

How does PanVision work?
At the core of the PanVision system is a dual‑reflection catadioptric component, instead of a classic convex mirror.
This makes the innovative PanVision vision system a true breakthrough with unique advantages, including: greater compactness, a self‑supporting structure and efficient aberration balancing.
The latest innovation introduced is the addition of a secondary objective that takes advantage of the image’s typical blind spot, enabling the PanVision lens to achieve a hyper‑hemispherical field of view!
For the first time in history, this allows the capture of dynamic, high‑resolution hyper‑hemispherical images capable of efficiently monitoring environments with people and moving objects, using a single optical system and a single camera.
PanVision 360° Bifocal
Inside the PanVision hyper‑hemispherical vision system is a secondary lens that enables zooming in or focusing on any specific point within the 360° panoramic view, delivering an even more comprehensive visual experience.
This makes it possible to fill the typical central ‘blind spot’ with the zoomed‑in image, simultaneously obtaining both the full panoramic view and a magnified section of it. All this using a single image sensor!
The bifocal version of the PanVision 360° vision system offers numerous advantages, especially for modern imaging and surveillance systems:
- 360° monitoring with a single lens
- Low data volume: compared to multi‑camera systems, PanVision requires significantly less computing power
- Innovative design for a smaller, lighter, and therefore more versatile optical system
- Objects always in focus, at 360°, in every direction
- Real‑time image processing enables seamless ‘unwrapping’ of images to make them ‘easily interpretable and/or usable’
- Infrared version (from 1.4 to 15 µm) available upon request, enabling operation in SWIR, MWIR, and LWIR ranges by replacing the type of glass used (ZnS and ZnSe) and the optical sensor/camera
Application fields

The design and technologies implemented in the PanVision 360° Bifocal systems open up new horizons for application in countless scientific, industrial and civil contexts.
In PanVision ultra‑wide‑angle vision systems, the simultaneous use of the two integrated lenses enables hyper‑hemispherical stereoscopic vision, particularly suitable for:
- blind guidance of vehicles, drones, and other means
- entertainment industry applications
- and much more.
