Interferometric Planes

An interferometric plane is a glass disk with one or both surfaces perfectly flat and polished.

These are used as a reference for checking the flatness of other surfaces. By putting the surface to check in contact with that of interferometric surface, air zones are created where the contact between the two surfaces is imperfect.

If the two surfaces are perfectly flat, parallel lines are seen.
